Once again it was my great pleasure to, at the Dave Glover Show Christmas Party, be present to hand out the greatest award in all St. Louis, and in all radio. The Halfwit Belt is the ultimate goal and prize in the greatest trivia game ever invented, and although it wasn't a squeaker like prior years, nonetheless 2008 was an exciting year. Three individuals played enough games this year to qualify for the belt, and although we lost one of them, John Cooper, to a move to Tennessee, we have several up-and-comers who I'm sure will make a charge for the prize next year: the father-son duo of Max Foizey and Rick Sanborn, and the show's producer Becca.
Now, to the results, third place this year with 263.32 belt points was Tony Colombo. In at second was last year's champ, John Cooper at 440.16.
And now, this year's winner...he won the first annual belt in 2006. He lost the 2007 belt on the last day on the last question to a formidable foe in John Cooper. And here, in 2008, he has used that last-minute loss to drive his strength and determination to not only win this year's belt, but to destroy the competition.
This year he has broken and sometimes rebroken the record on every stat in the book. And we know how big this book is with the way I keep stats.
This year he has won as many games as he's lost. And what is more amazing, is not only has he outscored every 2008 halfwit COMBINED by 800 points, but he has answered more questions right, and outscored everyone - including himself - who played during the 2006 inaugural season of Halfwits.
This is why it is no suprise that, whereas the past belts were won with slightly above par scores of 556 and 561 belt points, this year the winning score is an amazing 848. To put it another way, if this were baseball and the past titles were won with a .350 batting average, this year the winning mark was .530.
It is therefore my great honor and privilege to, on behalf of DGS fans everywhere, be awarding the 2008 Battle of the Halfwits Championship Belt to the man who is the Babe Ruth of Halfwits, the Michael Jordan of Halfwits, and the Evil Knievel of Halfwits all rolled up into one strange DNA soup: the nicest guy in St. Louis Radio, 2008 Battle of the Halfwits Champion: Thomas Faron Terbrock.
